Celebrity News: Christopher Reeve's son tells how he connected with his late parents after being orphaned as a child

Will Reeve, son of the legendary Superman actor Christopher Reeve, has spoken about the adventure he has undertaken to revive the last project his father did before suffering the accident that left him paraplegic.

Christopher Reeve was a symbol of overcoming after the drastic turn his life took. From being a successful actor and world-renowned for his iconic role in Superman, he became paraplegic after a tragic horse riding accident that almost cost him his life. However, he never lost his smile or his fighting spirit. Through his foundation, the actor dedicated his life to helping those facing similar situations, as told in the recent documentary about his life: Super / Man.

Reeve died at the age of 52 and, just 17 months later, his wife Dana also lost her life due to lung cancer. However, their son Will, who was a child when they died, says he feels deeply connected to his late parents and has decided to pay tribute to them in a special way. In the new episode of Will Reeve: Finding My Father, he embarks on a journey to relive the last project his father worked on before the accident that left him paraplegic in 1995: a documentary about gray whales in Alaska and Mexico.

"I've wanted to do this for most of my life. I grew up obsessed with this documentary," Will tells People. "For as long as I can remember, I wanted to go to this same lagoon in Mexico and this island off the coast of Alaska to see the gray whales and meet the people who live in harmony with them, just because my father did it and because it seemed like such a great adventure."

"I always dreamed that he and I would go together, or at least that I could go and come back and tell him all about it," he confesses. “Of course, that wasn’t possible. So I set out, as a journalist, to make a documentary that picked up where my father left off.”

During the episode, Will meets the son of the guide who accompanied his father to Mexico 30 years ago. Both say their parents’ presence was felt in an undeniable way. “We all felt multiple levels of connection to our parents, to my father, and to the whales that brought us all together,” Will says.

While the special reflects on how places have changed since his father visited, it highlights that there is one thing that remains intact.

“The spirit of the people hasn’t changed in the slightest,” he says. “Their traditions are as strong as ever. Their connection to the past has not only been maintained, but has been strengthened even further. And that created the perfect setting for me to come and explore and try to find my own connection to my past, using these people and places as a guide.”

After this, Will comments that when he talks about connecting with his deceased parents, he doesn't mean speaking to them out loud. "I connect with my parents and try to feel their presence in the way I move through the world, the way I interact with people, and the way I can channel my parents into my values and my lived experience in the present moment," he explains.

"This documentary journey was key in helping me better understand who my parents were, who I am, how we are similar and how we are different, how I continue their legacy and how I am creating my own at the same time," he concludes.

With this project, Will wanted to pay tribute to the memory of his father, trying to connect with his past while trying to forge his own path.
